Getting there
British Airways flies direct from London City to Florence’s Amerigo Vespucci International Airport (known locally as “Peretola”) four kilometres from the centre; Vuelling flies from Gatwick. On exiting the airport, turn right and head to the far end of the building to the taxi pick up-point. There are far more direct flights to Pisa from airports all over the UK, including Easyjet, Ryanair and Jet2. Transfers from Pisa Airport take roughly 75 minutes and the pick-up point is in front of you as you exit the airport building. When booking through Sea-Lifts, you can expect one of our representatives to collect you from the pick-up point.
City (main sights)
The Duomo Cathedral dominates the Florentine skyline and is a must-see for visitors. For stunning views, visit the Boboli Gardens lined with cypress trees and the Uffizi Gallery that houses spectacular works of art by Botticelli, Titian and Raphael. Don’t forget to catch Michelangelo’s world-famous sculpture David at the Accademia Gallery. Fashion gurus may also be interested in the recently opened Gucci Museum.

History
Birthplace of the Renaissance and a cultural powerhouse, Florence is the regional capital of Tuscany. It was founded as a Roman military colony in the 1st century BC. A turbulent political history includes periods of rule by the powerful Medici family and numerous religious and republican revolutions. During the 14th-16th century Florence achieved preeminence in commerce and finance, learning and especially the arts. It was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1982.
