Le Piste
Capbreton’s most famous wave, La Piste is an intense barrelling wave that can even rival La Graviere. Fast and hollow, this wave breaks right on the beach. Like Santoche, the strong currents pull you towards to landmark WWII bunkers, but La Piste is a sight to be seen.
Le Miramar
A peaky beach break that produces waves between 2 to 3 metres, Le Miramar is best when the surf is big. Thanks to a sea trench directly opposite absorbing a lot of the swell, waves can sometimes be flat if there isn’t enough of a swell. Capable of producing good barrel waves, the rides are short but intense, especially with the incoming tide.
Les Oceanides
One of the best beachbreaks in France when conditions are right, Les Oceanides is located immediately south of La Piste. Featuring 2 similar waves, they both break close to the beach in not a lot of water. With tube rides and stand-up barrels, this spot is worth observing to avoid the powerful riptides.
Santosha
A great spot for when the swell is too big in the surf spots further north, Santosha features a long right, near the groin, that then peels down to the iconic Capbreton Bunkers. With a swell of 3 metres, this spot has waves of 1.5 to 2 metres, including its famous punchy barrels.

When is the best time to surf in Capbreton
Capbreton is good for surfing all year-round. The best time to go surfing in Capbreton is generally between September and November, however, this can vary depending on your skill level.
Between December and March, Capbreton is huge, punch, barrelling waves and surfing during this time requires strong paddling.
Beginners will find conditions in Capbreton at their best during July and August, with waves much friendlier than at any other time of year. During these months, surf schools are very popular, so book in advance if you’re looking to have a lesson.
September, October and November usually have the best surfing conditions of the year. The water remains warm and the swell becomes much more consistent and punchier than during summer. The crowds have often disappeared by September, making surf spots much more enjoyable. May and June are also good months to surf, but the water isn’t as warm.
