Orio

Located in Pais Vasco, Playa de Orio offers reliable surf that receives a mix of groundswells and wind swells. A fairly exposed beach/jetty/river mouth break, Orio is best experienced during the autumn months when the winds are from the south and the swell direction is from the northwest. Producing both left and rights at the beach break, this spot can sometimes be crowded.

Playa de Gaztetape

Great any time of the year, Playa de Gaztetape is a reliable, exposed beach break. Producing both lefts and rights, this spot is best experienced around low tide when the swell angle is from the northwest. Thanks to its consistency, Playa de Gaztetape can get crowded when the surf is working.

When is the best time to surf in Zarautz

Enjoying a mild Spanish climate, Zarautz is a year-round surf destination. Although this surf village has waves all year, its suitability is dependent on the level of the surfer.

Beginners will find the surf conditions are at their best between June and October. Benefiting from warm water temperatures, the swell is much gentler during this time of year and perfect for learning or practising your technique. Enjoying temperatures between 22C and 28C, this period also sees the most enjoyable weather.

Intermediate surfers will find suitable surf conditions in Zarautz all year round, with the best months being September and October. During this period, surfers will still benefit from the warmer water temperatures but will be able to enjoy the waves without summer crowds.

Although Zarautz is a reliable surf spot, advanced surfers will be best suited to the surf conditions between October and March. During this period, surfers will experience the Atlantic winter swell and be challenged by powerful waves.
