Town

Once a small fishing village, Ayia Napa is now a cosmopolitan resort on the east coast of Cyprus. It has year-round warm weather and the long stretches of golden sand make it popular with families. WaterWorld a fun water park is on the resort’s outskirts and there is a Marine Life Museum. The buzzing coastal city of Limassol is a 90-minute drive away. Nearby Protaras is a popular resort with some of the best beaches.

Beaches

Ayia Napa’s Nissi Beach boasts a sweep of clean golden sand as well as sun loungers and umbrellas for hire. Bars, music, banana boat rides and a host of other watersports make this lively stretch of sand popular with the clubbing crowd. For quieter stretches of beach, head out to Cape Greco to the east of Ayia Napa. To really get away from it all head to Green Bay and Konnos. Closer to central Ayia Napa is Grecian Bay which encompasses three secluded coves and features great views.

Landmarks

There are a handful of historical monuments to remind tourists of Ayia Napa’s Cypriot heritage. The Monastery of Ayia Napa built by the Venetians in the 16th Century is known for its beautiful architecture and cloisters. By the south gate is an ancient sycamore fig tree which is reputed to be over 600 years old. The Makronissos Tombs are on the western outskirts of the town. These Neolithic chambers can be reached by a series of steps. Makronissos Beach is nearby.
